I miss milk bottles

I must be getting old, because I'm starting to feel nostalgic about certain things! The other day, I thought about milk bottles and how nice they were. Having them delivered to your door, the lovely foil tops that Mum used to collect to recycle or we would use for our artistic endeavors. The cream on the top. Washing the bottles out to be collected and re-used, whats not to love about them? I don't like having loads of plastic bottles to recycle.

The illustrators tea party was a day full of cake tea coffee scones and an excellent talk by Karoline Rerrie appreciated by lovely illustratory people. Thanks to everyone that came.

Girls Who Draw Magic show!!

Magic Show brings together a diverse group of women illustrators from the West Midlands and beyond including London, Leeds, Norwich and Edinburgh. Exhibitors are Ruth Green, Sarah Ray, Kate Hindley, Karoline Rerrie, Jane Anderson, Helen Entwisle, Mary Kilvert, Sarah Lippett, Daisy Whitehouse, Beth Morrison and Mina Braun, a mix of recent graduates, emerging and experienced illustrators. Each one has interpreted the theme of magi...c in their own unique way and created new work especially for Solihull Gallery. Rather than focusing on producing two dimensional illustrations the group has used this opportunity to explore other abilities and hidden talents which they don’t often get the chance to showcase. They have stitched, paper cut, painted, printed and conjured up an array of unusual artwork to fill the whole gallery interior ranging from small artists’ books to hand sewn characters and large scale installations.

I was just going to my course on a Thursday evening and noticed what looked like lots of birds in the trees, and wondered why they weren't moving..turns out they're lots of shoes in the trees!! Apparently someone started this collaborative community art one day and lots of other people added to it. I think it's brilliant. But there must be a lot of shoeless people about in Ladywood now though.

June’s Out of Hours, a socialising event for people in the cultural sector based in the West Midlands, will take a look at illustration and in particular the work of Sarah Ray, whose quirky, funny images have appeared in a number of magazines and have been commissioned by high profile clients including Orange and Artgroup. Sarah will be introducing her exhibition Good Day, which will be on show in Lock Works, Thurs 1 May - Fri 27 Jun. For more info visit www.sarahray.co.uk

I just wanted to explain to those who don't know, why my blog page is called 'squeakyunderpants' as I think this is the kind of thing that needs to be explained..

This is a drawing I did after a strange conversation with a friend of mine. We were working out which of the above was emitting the squeak. Thankfully it was his shoes..

Hello all..!

I have to admit..It wasn't until recently that I truly understood what exactly a blog is. It took a long time..but here I am.

Anyway..this is where I will post anything to do with my illustration i.e. news, new work, stories or even just silly words I like. I feel a bit of frantic typing coming along due to the excitement of creating a blog and having lots to say but I'm also aware that I may be babbling on. So, without further ado, I'd like to submit my first bit of information. I know you're all trembling with anticipation..

'Good Day' solo exhibition

It sounds better if you say my name before or after the exhibition name, because then it rhymes!
I will have a selection of screen prints and comic work up in The Lighthouse, Wolverhampton. I will also have a few products for sale in the cafe such as badges.
Also on Monday 16th June I will be introducing my work at the 'Out of hours' evening - so come along!
